How to Enter EDL Mode on Any Qualcomm Device: Step-by-Step
What Is EDL Mode?
Emergency Download (EDL) mode, also known as Qualcomm 9008 mode, is the lowest-level diagnostic mode available on Qualcomm-powered devices. It allows direct communication with the device’s storage through the Qualcomm Sahara/Firehose protocol, bypassing all software-level security.
When to Use EDL Mode
- Bricked devices — When the device won’t boot to recovery or fastboot
- FRP bypass — Some FRP methods require EDL access
- Firmware flashing — Installing stock firmware on heavily modified devices
- IMEI repair — Restoring corrupted IMEI/MEID data
Method 1: ADB Command
If your device boots to Android or recovery:
adb reboot edl
Method 2: Button Combination
- Power off the device completely
- Hold Volume Up + Volume Down simultaneously
- While holding both buttons, connect the USB cable to PC
- Device appears as “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” in Device Manager
Method 3: Test Point
For completely bricked devices, the test point method is the most reliable. This involves shorting specific pins on the motherboard to force EDL mode. Each device model has a unique test point location — Tfast Unlocker includes test point diagrams for supported models.
Verifying EDL Mode
In EDL mode, the screen will be completely black. Open Device Manager — you should see “Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008” under Ports.
Using EDL Mode with Tfast Unlocker
Tfast Unlocker automatically detects devices in EDL mode and loads the appropriate firehose programmer. Simply select your operation and the tool handles the rest.
