Firmware Flashing Best Practices: Avoid Bricks and Data Loss

Pre-Flight Checklist

  1. Verify device model exactly — Use *#1234# or Settings > About Phone
  2. Check current firmware version — Note build number and security patch
  3. Verify anti-rollback index — Never flash firmware with lower index
  4. Backup EFS/NVRAM — Critical for preserving IMEI
  5. Charge battery to 50%+
  6. Use quality USB cable — Short, under 1m, data-capable

During Flashing

  • Never disconnect USB during flashing
  • Don’t touch the device or cable
  • Monitor progress for errors
  • Keep tool window visible

After Flashing

  1. Wait for tool to confirm completion
  2. Allow 5-15 minutes for first boot
  3. Verify baseband version
  4. Check IMEI with *#06#
  5. Test Wi-Fi, cellular, calls, Bluetooth

Recovering from Failed Flash

Don’t panic. Try entering EDL/BROM/Download mode with hardware buttons. Retry with Tfast Unlocker’s recovery mode. Try different USB port or cable if device isn’t detected.
