Understanding MediaTek Boot ROM
Every MediaTek SoC contains a Boot ROM (BROM) — read-only code burned into the chip. It runs before anything else and provides a failsafe USB communication method regardless of software state.

Entering BROM Mode
Method 1: Button Combination
- Power off completely (remove battery if possible)
- Hold Volume Up
- Connect USB while holding the button
- Release after 2-3 seconds — device enumerates as “MediaTek PreLoader USB VCOM”
Method 2: Test Point
If button method fails, short the test point to ground during boot. Each chipset has a different location.
